For the first time since she was here, Desdemona didn’t feel so alone. Since she had been here, she hadn’t met anyone else yet. Just one person. He hadn’t exactly gave her a good vibe either. In fact, he had sent a chill up her spine. Him and his creepy smile. Derek was the first person she had met that she felt she could call a friend.Desdemona knew she could trust him. Not with everything, but with enough to let him into her home. It was almost as if in the short time they met, she knew that if anything happened, he would be that person right there. It was a feeling that put her at ease. In all honesty, she was afraid she would be alone for a long time. As much as she had thought she had wanted it, she realized now she didn’t. She wanted a friend.
“I’m fine. It’s kinda of hard for me to see in the dark. I usually take a flashlight with me, but as you can see, I didn’t exactly plan my hike.”
Desdemona felt the corners of her mouth pull up into a smile. He was teasing her. It wasn’t something she was used to seeing. It had been a long time. Sensing a familiar surrounding, she recognized they were close to her cabin. Had she really run that far out? If it hadn’t have been for him showing up, she would have been utterly lost. How did they even make it back here?
“It’s a bit chilly out here, but you can keep that. I don’t want to take your jacket. It looks nice. Like it’s special. We’re almost to my cabin. I’m going to put some clothes on when we get there.”
Desdemona found herself looking at him. Maybe he would stay. There was so much she wanted to know about him. Like how old he was? Did he have family? What kind of interests did he have? What was his favorite color? What did he do for fun? Would he tell her these things?
Derek smiled at her, an honest smile, feeling actual relief about the fact that she wasn’t hurt. He couldn’t see if the few bits of dirt on her clothes were from her crash landing just now or from earlier. He instantly started wondering how long she had actually been running through the woods before he had found her.
“Yeah, I thought as much. I can see pretty good, if you need help..?” he offered.
The Alpha hadn’t really thought about were he was going. He didn’t know her cabin since he clearly never had been there, so he assumed he was just following her. The idea that she had no clue herself where she had come from or where her home was, never even came to his mind. He had instinctively followed her scent through the woods, leading her back to familiar surroundings until she recognized it herself.
Derek nodded and lowered his arm with the jacket again. He didn’t put it back on for he was not cold himself and also she had said they would be at her cabin soon anyway. “Special? It’s not really.. special. I’ve just had it a long time.” he answered her indirect question.
He looked back on the trail before them but noticed she had returned to staring at him. After a few steps he stopped and looked at her. “If you continue doing that, you will fall again. Is there something you want to ask me?”
“I think my failing miserably has ended for now, but thank you for the offer. Something held onto for a long time must...
